These are beautiful! I have seen a garden tiger this year but I have never seen either of the other two. I love the brimstone in particular. What a beautiful moth. I have no moth trap but read recently about making “moth bait” with banana and brown sugar. Do you know whether that is effective for attracting them? I would love to see more moths- but the traps are expensive.

Yes the 'moth bait' approach should attract a few moths - nothing like as many as a light trap, but one or two that never come to light (eg the Old Lady). There are lots of recipes (individual moth-ers tend to have their own favourites!). This method of attracting moths is usually called 'sugaring', if you want to Google it. But there are other options if you don't want to spend out on a trap. Just hang up a white sheet and shine a light on it. A bulb with a high UV content is best ... a Wemlight or blacklight for example, similar to the lights used in reptile cages to keep them warm. There's a Facebook group dedicated to the construction of light traps, and similar, where you should be able to get some good advice. Alternatively, try contacting your local wildlife groups to see whether any of them have a light trap they will lend out, for people to give it a trial run.
